Without wasting time, let’s find out what are the new features and how it will help users during COVID-19.
Unlocking New Features
Exposure Notification
Apple is rolling out the new iOS 13.5 for iPhone and iPadOS 13.5 for iPad. These two software updates will bring unique features to the iPhones and iPads regarding COVID-19. The most prominent feature is Apple & Google’s joint Exposure Notification API, which will allow government and health agencies to reduce the spread of coronavirus through contact tracing apps. The Exposure Notification API will enable interoperability between iOS and Android devices. These will generate alerts that users will receive on their phones if they have been exposed to someone who has tested positive or is likely to test positive for Covid-19.
Face ID Feature
To keep with the changes caused by the pandemic, Apple has released iOS 13.5 with Face ID enhancements, Exposure Notification API & more.
iOS 13.5 introduces speedy access to the passcode field on devices with FACE ID even when the user has a mask on. Since the pandemic has started, users were facing difficulty unlocking their devices using Face ID. People were facing difficulty because the Face ID would reject the login attempts and then give the option for entering a passcode and causing the delay.
These features are only available on devices with Face ID: iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone, 11 Pro, & iPhone 11 Pro Max. This Face ID feature will also help to unlock all the apps that support Face ID, such as App Store, Apple Books, Apple Pay, iTunes, etc.
Summing up the Face ID & Passcode
- This new update simplifies the unlock process with Face ID when you are wearing a face mask.
- This feature also works authenticating with apps that need Face ID, such as App Store, Apple Books, iTunes and other apps.
Modifications to Medical ID
The medical ID feature allows you to store some of your medical records for emergency purposes. This feature has been modified now so that users can share their Medical ID automatically with 911 call operators. This feature is going to be life-saving.
In case you are contacting from a location with Enhanced Emergency Data, your data will safely be shared with the call center. Though currently, this feature functionality is only available in the US.
Improvements to Group FaceTime.
The company has also enhanced the group FaceTime feature. IOS automatically enlarges the face of the person who is speaking if you make a group FaceTime call. You can toggle this feature by going to the Automatic Prominence section in the FaceTime, which is available in your device’s Settings app.
Fixing Bugs & Other Improvements
The new release of iOS 13.5 is also coming with two new bug fixes. It fixes two security issues, including one that affected the Mail application on the iPhone. Earlier, this bug allowed the hackers to attach any iOS device remotely by sending emails that use up a notable amount of memory, but now the bug is patched.
Besides, it also solves the issue where users may get a black screen when they try to play streaming videos from sites.
How to install the new iOS 13.5?
If you have enabled the Automatic Updates in your device, then it would have been installed as all the users have already received notification about the availability of iOS 13.5.
If you haven’t got the update yet, you can always go for the manual option. For doing it manually, open the Setting app in your device, then click on General and then tap on Software Update.
